Skirmish, the game development showcase platform that originally launched back in 2015 has had a major new update, and we’re so thrilled to share details about it with you.

But first, if you haven’t heard of Skirmish before, watch this 1 min award winning video to see how it can help you.

It has been a long time in the making, and meanwhile we have been quiet publicly about it, but we’re glad to finally be able to launch it and put it in your hands. You can check it live at Skirmish.io.

So what’s new with Skirmish?

Interface Overhaul

While we like the simplistic design of Skirmish, we wanted to give it a more professional look. So if you visit now, you will see completely redesigned interface for all pages of the site, while still staying faithful to the original theme and style, with an added bar to feature the best posts.

Make Tags, Not Categories!

When we planned categories in the platform initially, we were hoping it would bring structure to the content. Instead, it quickly became apparent it’s actually creating chaos and confusion to users. Posts can both be Concept Art, and Character art. Developers can also tick so many categories that match their skills, such as game designer, artist, game programmer, making it more vague what their core focus is.

So instead, with this version we removed Categories completely in favor of tags. Posts and users can use tags to identify themselves. Developers will also have Title field to best describe their core focus, be it Game Design, Programming, Art, or Voice Over.

To make the transition easier for you developers, we have adopted the most used categories to identify your main work. You are encouraged to check it out and update it as needed.

Hire Me Feature!

To better identify which developers are available for hiring, you can now opt to show the “Hire Me” button from your Profile page, so people can find you easier.

Project File Attachments

You can now add attachments to your Projects to share with others. This can be your assets, or a small game prototype for example.

Skirmish Marketplace

Pretty much the most thing we’ve been looking for and are excited to share is the Skirmish Marketplace.

No, that’s not another place where you can sell your assets. There are already many great places to do that. Because of that, it’s becoming harder to search these sites to find the best asset. Hence our Marketplace. A dedicated Game Assets Aggregator that brings together assets from various stores and show them all in one place, where you can easily browse through, search, and filter them to find the asset you need.

Purchase and download all happens from the original asset store. We help you find it, and then take you there to complete the purchase/download.

Sounds awesome? Check it out, and let us know what you think please. And don’t forget to send it to your friends so they can take advantage of it.

But what about the developers looking to be hired? Is this minimizing their exposure? We don’t think so, as developers will always be needed for custom work. And this is why we’ve integrated and feature some suitable candidate developers alongside related searches.

When people search for the asset they want, we feature some matching developers who can provide the needed skill.

To be eligible to show in this feed, make sure you check the “Show Hire Me Button” in your profile.

Visit Skirmish.io to see the new changes, signup for an account if you don’t have one already, share your work, connect with other developers, and find the asset you need.
